Contamana está ubicada a 431 km de Iquitos (3 días) y a 12 horas en bote desde Pucallpa, en la margen derecha del río Ucayali.
Su nombre en dialecto shipibo significa “cerro de palmeras” y se trata de uno de los puertos fluviales más importantes de la zona. Cuenta con servicios básicos para atender a los turistas.
El Mirador del Barrio de Jerusalén
Este cerro de unos 30 m de altura desciende hasta las orillas del río Ucayali, ubicado en el sur de Contamana, y forma parte del sistema de la Cordillera Azul. Desde el lugar es posible observar bellos amaneceres y atardeceres y paisajes que forman parte de un rico ecosistema de flora y fauna.
Aguas Calientes
A 22 km al noreste de Contamana, por trocha carrozable.
El lugar tiene unas veinte fuentes de aguas sulfurosas y ferrosas, con propiedades medicinales y temperaturas que varían entre los 40ºC y 90ºC. Cerca de las fuentes de aguas termales se encuentra una “collpa de guacamayos”, donde confluyen diariamente importantes bandadas de estas vistosas aves para picotear la tierra cargada del azufre que contiene el agua de la cocha.
Lago Chia Tipishca
A 30 minutos de Contamana en deslizador.
Ubicado en la margen izquierda del río Ucayali, este lago tiene aguas de tonalidad azulada con abundantes especies de peces, y es un lugar ideal para practicar la pesca deportiva, pasear en deslizador, canoa, etc. En las inmediaciones habitan pobladores de la comunidad étnica Shipibo Conibo, cuyos habitantes son hábiles artesanos y productores de piezas de cerámica, pintura y bordado en tela.

The name comes from the Shipibo dialect and means “hill of palm trees”; it happens to be one of the most important river ports in the area. Basic tourist services are available there.
Jerusalem Neighborhood Lookout
This hill, 30 meter / 98 feet high, descending towards the banks of the Ucayali River, is located south of Contamana and forms part of the Azul Cordillera.
You can watch incredible sunrises and sunsets from there, and enjoy the countryside that makes up part of a rich ecosystem of plant and animal life.
Hot Springs
22 km / 14 miles northeast of Contamana on a drivable path.
The area has some twenty sulfurous and iron rich springs with therapeutic properties that vary in temperature from 40ºC to 90ºC / 104ºF to 194ºF. There is a macaw clay lick very near to the hot springs where large flocks of colorful birds congregate on a daily basis to eat the clay rich in sulfur contained in the water of the lake.
Chia Tipishca Lake
30 minutes from Contamana by chartered boat.
Located on the left bank of the Ucayali River, this lake contains blue colored water and an abundance of fish species. It is perfect for fishing, chartering a boat, canoeing, etc. The inhabitants of the Shipibo Conibo indigenous community live nearby; they are skillful artisans making ceramic, paintings, and embroidery pieces.
